On March 24th, our Michigan Governor issued a "Shelter in Place" order for all non-essential businesses. We quickly made the decision to shut down all production of bags and let our employees stay at home to remain safe. We finished up as many in house bag orders as we could and emailed all outstanding orders of the delay.
As we caught wind of the need for homemade masks for various healthcare communities like cancer treatment centers, nursing homes, and more - we pivoted our seamstresses to making masks from home. Our customers rallied around us and gave donations in the form of mask sponsorships so we could continue to pay our employees while meeting this healthcare need.
Soon, the CDC recommended all members of the public wear a mask when going out in public and we opened up the ability to make 300 masks per week for the general public.
As of May 11th, manufacturing was allowed to resume in the state of Michigan. This meant we could get back to work! We also were able to start receiving leather shipments from Italy again.
The weeks of May 11th & May 18th were spent catching up on orders left over from when we had to abruptly shut down. Those customers who waiting over 10 weeks for their bags are amazing. Way to survive "The Great Bag Wait of 2020"!
We will start working on NEW Custom Orders the week of May 25th, so we are GRAND opening up the Custom Listings on May 19th - just in time for Rebecca's Book Launch!
You will notice that ship times are now visible in each title. We are limited the number of bag orders that we allow each week to help stabilize the return to work as well as keep work steady over the long haul for our seamstresses. As we reach a week's capacity of orders, the "Ships By" date in each listing title will change.
